Many get their start by learning on their own, in the past with mainly balsa built planes, that were time consuming to construct, and very rewarding to look at and fly. More recently with relatively inexpensive planes have become available, so called ready to fly (RTF) or almost ready to fly (ARF) models. Lots of information, is available online about technique and computer simulation software is available, and makes this art of flying seem to be relatively easy.
